McLellan Poetry Competition – An evening with Sean O’Brien

30th August 2019

Arran Theatre and Arts Trust presents for the first time on Arran, poet Sean O’Brien, the judge of this year’s McLellan Poetry Competition.

Music with Arran Dawn, Arran’s famous harp and whistle duo.
Corrie and Sannox Hall, 7.30pm
£12 / Children and young people at school free

The winners of the Mclellan Poetry Competition 2019 have now been chosen and their names will be announced at the Prize-giving event on 30th August. There were circa 1200 entries and every continent was represented. There was a large range of subjects, from the political to the personal, though only two on Brexit and one mentioning Trump. Prominent this year were poems about historical events and poems written about paintings.

We are hoping that as many as possible of the 9 winners will be joining us in Corrie and Sannox Hall on the 30th. Please come along and give them an Arran welcome. After the winners have read their poems and received their prizes, Sean O’Brien will be reading from his own work.

The next day, 31st August we have a Poetry Workshop led by Sean. It runs from 11am to 3.30pm and costs £12 including lunch. You can pay on the day. Anyone can take part. Very little courage required. No judging involved.

Booking essential. Please contact Cicely Gill on 01770 700464 or email: cicelym39@gmail.com
