Stroll with It Arran! Health Walks

Welcome to Stroll with It Arran! Health Walks

Walking is a great way to stay healthy and get fitter as well as being good for our mental health. If you would like to walk more, build up your confidence and explore Arran, joining a health walk could be the answer.

This summer the Stroll with It! programme run by North Ayrshire Council’s The Trinity Active Travel Hub started regular walks on Arran led by trained volunteer health walk leaders Diana Turbett and Linda Taylor. Walks last 1 to 1.5 hours, are free, go at a gentle pace, are risk assessed and aim to fit in with bus times.

We are delighted to have the support of Arran Ecosavvy’s Active Travel team with our shared focus on encouraging low carbon, active and sustainable travel. There will be a maximum of 12 places per walk with pre-booking required with Diana. Bookings will be taken nearer the time but enquiries can be made to diana.ecosavvy@gmail.com

Walkers have now enjoyed two Stroll with It Arran! Health Walks – one in Brodick and one in Lamlash. We have been very lucky with the weather and on both days the rain stayed away and we even enjoyed a fair amount of sunshine as you can see from the snap above of the group in front of Holy Isle.

The next walk on Tuesday 14th September in Brodick will be a stroll up Knowe Road, hopefully to see some peacocks! The walk is 1.5 miles along tarmac and track up and in good weather with views of Glen Cloy opening up. We return to the Pavilion and the option of an outside cuppa.

Tuesday 28th September will be a walk through Cordon in Lamlash and around historic Hamilton Terrace. This 1.5 mile route is flat and includes some footpaths and pavements. Toilets and outside refreshments are available at the Discovery Centre for a small donation on our return.

Tuesday 12th October we will be exploring the west coast in Blackwaterfoot. The 1.5 mile walk is mostly flat but involves some walking along tracks and some stretches of road without pavement. The walk follows the track behind Blackwaterfoot beach across the golf course, with views across the Kilbrannan Sound to Kintyre.

Details may require to change subject to the national and local Covid situation and weather.

It is planned to continue fortnightly Tuesday walks into the Autumn with the ongoing programme reflecting demand and interest. There will also be opportunities for others to train as volunteer walk leaders for Stroll with It Arran! to enable us to sustain and develop health walks on Arran. Look out for more details.
