Arran Folk Festivals Exhibition, Arran Heritage Museum, Brodick
6th – 11th June, daily 10.30am – 12pm, 2 – 4pm.
Pop up exhibition about the history of Folk Festivals on Arran in the Garden Room. It will feature posters, photographs, and more, of
this Arran Festival which has been a musical highlight in the Arran calendar for many years.

The High Life, Saltwater Gallery, Cladach
To 22nd June. This month is the last chance to visit this beautiful exhibition featuring artwork relating to the coast and mountains of Scotland. For more information about the gallery visit the website here

Music and festivals
Arran Folk Festival, various venues tbc
7th – 9th June, afternoon and evening sessions
2024 brings us the 28th Arran Folk Festival which will feature free-to-attend afternoon sessions with Uncle Keith at the Douglas Hotel, evening concerts in Brodick Village Hall and late-night sessions. There will also be some special free-to-attend workshops.

Pop-up Opera 2024, Whiting Bay Village Hall,
9th June, 2pm and 4pm
Experience all the drama and wonder of opera on a miniature scale, with specially-created 30 minute performances for all ages, brought to life by two singers, instrumentalists and a beautiful set of illustrations. A Little Bit of The Merry Widow and A Little Bit of Don Giovanni are two cleverly rewritten versions of beloved classics – one the ultimate rom-com, the other a moody story of one man’s fate.

Film
Corrie Film Club, Corrie and Sannox Village Hall
Sunday 9th June 2024, 7.30pm – film showing Pretty Red Dress
Pretty Red Dress is a 2022 British drama film written and directed by Dionne Edwards. It follows the story of a family of three (father, mother and teenage daughter) after the father is released from prison, and while the mother is auditioning for the part of Tina Turner in a musical. A red dress bought for the part becomes central to the plot. The film is sound-tracked to Turner’s various hit songs. Free entry but a small donation to Corrie and Sannox Hall is welcomed
Talks
Tuesday Talks at the Arran Heritage Museum. 1.30pm in the Garden Room On June 4th Angela Cassels will be speaking on “Kilpatrick’s Abandoned Settlements”
A survey of two former settlements, looking at their history and the people who lived in them. Updated for new research and answering how they relate to Kilpatrick today.

Authors on Arran Monday 10th June, 11am – 3.30pm, Ormidale, Brodick
Michael J Malone and Douglas Skelton talking about their practice. They will speak about ways to write both fiction and non-fiction. This will be a relaxed and open forum to learn and seek the experience of two professional writers with an element of mindfulness along the way. Open to those with experience and those thinking about it. Open to all with experience and none!
