It’s no surprise that we love Seahorses around here! To us, they’re the perfect blend of fact and fiction. If we didn’t know they were real, we’d stock them in the fantasy section! And because of that, they’re the perfect emblem of our motto and our vision for Seahorse Bookstore, Awakening the Imagination.
Imagination is so important to us because 1. It makes everything better 2. It is the key to a beautiful new future! Imagination leads to creativity, and creativity leads to new possibilities, new outcomes, and new opportunities.
People ask us why opened a bookstore here? The first independent bookstore in a historically deprived county? And it’s because we fell in love with this area and we saw the opening for a place that opens the imagination so that we can collectively envision a new future!
What if… we celebrated the breathtaking beauty of our incredible locality?
What if… we took pride in the amazing history of our area, and invested in the present and future of our communities?
What if… we celebrated our differences, instead of responding to new things with fear and animosity?
What if… the best days of the three toons, north Ayrshire, southwest Scotland, and all of Scotland are just around the corner, when we can unlock the imagination and open the door for positivity, joy, and abundance?
We believe all of these things are possible when we put our collective imagination together! Without imagination, we stay in the same routines, think the same thoughts, say the same things, and do the same things. With a dash of imagination, we can change all of that in wonderful ways- keep the good, release the negativity.
Books are the gateway to the imagination! They open our imaginations by telling us different stories- and when we learn different stories, we begin to see they are possible for us!

We’re starting the Seahorse Writing Salon on 1st Thursdays, from 6:00-7:00 pm. This will not be a class, but will usually begin with a quick meditation, and then there will be time to share your work, chat about what you’re writing, and have time writing together! We also have prompts to pass around should you like one. This is by donation, and there is no need to book ahead.
We’re doing an experiment in August with Music Mondays! Come and jam along or enjoy the music from 6-8pm. 3rd Thursday Music Nights are out, Music Mondays are in.
It’s so important to have safe spaces to share opinions and discuss deep issues. It’s vital to have good community!
Join our amazing book clubs to be part of such a fantastic, thoughtful community! All you need to do to join is to buy the book from us, or if you already have it, buy something else. 2nd & 4th Thursdays, from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Seahorse Bookstore is a family run bookshop in Ardrossan. We are located en route to the Arran ferry. We have three rooms: The Non-Fiction room, The Fiction Room and The Kids’ Room all stocked with books and a few toys. We also serve tea and coffee along with Seahorse Biscuits.
