Our first craft club of the new year was very well attended and we welcomed lots of new members. The session was devoted to intuitive art journaling and led by Fiona Doubleday. This school of journaling draws on both art and meditation and members were set two ‘intuitive’ exercises to complete in two hours. It was an ambitious session but it then enabled a good basic understanding of the skills involved in intuitive art journaling. Members, cut, glued and stitched their way through the time with the briefest of pause for the mandatory tea and cake. At the end of the session a wonderful collection of journals had begun life with beautiful front covers and several pages underway.
So well received was the session that a wee intuitive art journaling group was immediately formed and they will now meet monthly to take on a new exercise each month for the year. The plan is to review at the end of the year to see how engaging in this activity has affected lives. Summing up, one member said, ‘I guess you start with including what you like but, over time, the journal starts to speak back to you.’ Perfect.
February craft club is on Tuesday 13th in the lesser hall Whiting Bay from 10 am to 12 noon and we are cushion making. There will be a group for people new to using a sewing machine and a more experienced group who will have a wee go at applique. All most welcome. Cost is £7.50 and includes materials and refreshments. However, if you have a favourite piece of fabric do feel free to bring it with you.
