Quilt display at Rutherglen Library
Artist and poet, Arran visitor and Voice reader, Christine Quarrell, sends an invitation to come and view the Busy Bees display of Quilts, now on at the Rutherglen Library through the first three weeks in June:
With the cooperation and support of Women Quilters and Rutherglen Library workers all the planning work has finally came together.
Thanks to everyone who helped me accomplish this installation. The Photograph Album and two poems inspired by this group of older working class women accompany the display. (copyright cmq2023)
Our display records and reflects our journeys of crafting work and the processes of quilting among friends and co-quilters.
The Comments Book welcomes our communities views on our collective efforts.
Christine is happy to meet with visitors to Rutherglen to give a wee tour – you can contact her on urbancrone@icloud.com

About the Busy Bees Craft Group Rutherglen 2023
Women come together to create and sew quilts. Lots of our life stories are shared as we sew and talk. Sometimes laughter, sometimes sadness.
All the talking and creating is so helpful to a sense of purpose and fun in our senior years. Feels such a happy place and the sense of companionship is great.
We learn new skills which keeps our brains very active and alert.
Plenty of tea, toast and cakes add to a comfortable welcoming environment.
What could be better? Meets Friday mornings between 10am – 12pm.

Song of Quilting
we join hands & reach
for fabric & thread
conversation turns
with each motion
to kaleidoscopic configuration’s
the big table bends under the weight
our colourful creations grow&grow
we sigh in happy contented wonder
the Reuther hall resonates
as our machines buzz&hum out
a symphony to sewing
each woman moves to the sounds
childhood memories are stirring
new memories are gathered
for our deeply&dearly loved
grandchildren&great grandchildren
