New dates released for free cancer course in Ayrshire

This year, leading cancer charity Penny Brohn UK hosted free support courses for people living with cancer and their close supporter at Dumfries House near Cumnock in Ayrshire. Following positive feedback and record number of attendees the charity has released new dates for a fourth course at the recently opened Health and Wellbeing Centre at Dumfries House.

Penny Brohn UK’s two-day Living Well will take place on Monday 28 October and Monday 4 November from 10am to 5.30pm. Places are limited and first come, first served.

The course will look at cancer’s impact on the mind, body and emotions and show how healthy eating, exercise and relaxation can improve health and wellbeing, before, during and after medical treatment.

Penny Brohn UK Living Well Scotland Coordinator Jacqui Penman said: “Cancer can be overwhelming, but finding out what you can do to take back some control makes a huge difference.”

A recent course attendee said: “I really enjoyed the course and felt very comfortable throughout. I will go home with a wealth of information and a positive outlook for the future.”

The course is open to someone supporting a loved one with cancer. Another recent attendee said: “Please attend the course! You need to take care of yourself first in order to care and support someone else. Penny Brohn UK can give you the knowledge and guidance to do this.”

With nearly 40 years’ experience, Penny Brohn UK recognises that people with cancer need more than medicine. Its whole person approach offers personalised care from the point of a cancer diagnosis into treatment and throughout survivorship. Exploring areas like diet, exercise, emotions, relationships and managing stress, our free courses, one-to-one therapies, and group sessions, work alongside standard medical treatment to achieve the best health and wellbeing by supporting the holistic needs – psychological, emotional, spiritual and physical – of people affected by cancer.

Living Well courses are free and empower people with cancer and their supporters to rediscover their joy of living.

To attend the course you must book in advance by calling 0303 3000 118 or emailing bookings@pennybrohn.org.uk. Or visit the website for more information.
