Eco Savvy’s December news

Arran Eco Savvy has lots of things planned over the weeks to come, including a special sustainable Christmas in the Whiting Bay shop. Read on to hear from Eco Savvy’s shop manager Nikki, who explains the great reasons to buy pre-loved and eco products, for a green and gorgeous Christmas!

Nikki writes:

There are lots of good reasons for making the switch to greener more sustainable products. No harmful chemicals going into our seas, air or soil. It`s often small businesses that use sustainable practices and by buying eco-friendly products this can have a positive ripple effect on the environment. Most of the products last longer too which provides value for money in these cash strapped times.

Each year the Eco Savvy Shop saves tonnes of unwanted items from going to landfill. It’s a small shop and sometimes we need to have a good clear out to make room for new donations which we did at the start of the month. First with a visit from Rag Bag who collected 36 bags of clothing, bags and shoes. Good quality clothing is transported to Africa and other developing nations where your old clothes are re-used. Low grade textiles stay in the UK and are made into industrial wiping cloths, carpets, underlay and mattress linings. So, keep the donations coming…

With Christmas around the corner, we are getting ready to turn the shop into a treasure trove of Christmas goodies. Baubles, toys, tinsel, etc. We also stock a range of very affordable eco stocking fillers with our Make your Own range which are completely recyclable.

Enjoy a bit of feel-good shopping knowing you are not contributing anymore waste to our beautiful earth by buying preloved pressies and decorations.

See you there!

Take our survey for Active Travel!

Arran Eco Savvy’s Plans for Active Travel – 2024-5.

We would really appreciate it if you could fill out this survey please to help us inform our future Active Travel plans. This should take no more than 3 mins of your time.

We hope to include four additional user groups: people with a disability needing adapted bikes, school age children needing bicycles (upcycled), young parents needing health walks, islanders needing both walking and cycling buddies to build confidence as well as a car lift share scheme.

Our recent island surveys have found there is a provision gap for all of these, but we want to gather up more comments and opinions from islanders to make sure we are on the right track!
