Arran Folk Festival
From June 14th – 17th, Arran will be host to a fabulous constellation of talent. The Festival kicks off on Thursday 14th with a Welcome Concert and Ceilidh in Brodick Hall, with Bobby Watt, Anna MacDonald and Lori Watson with Rule of Three.
Friday 15th sees an afternoon Open Session at the Douglas Hotel from mid day until 5.00 pm, and after a break for something to eat, gallops on into an evening concert, again at Brodick Hall. It features ODI, an Irish singer/song-writer, Jim Hunter and Graham Flett, and The Dead Man’s Waltz. This amazingly titled group say their songs are about ‘tales of romance and small town criminality.’
Saturday sees no let-up, with a further Open Session at the Douglas in the afternoon and a concert at Brodick Hall with the astonishingly talented Heather Young, whose age, at only 16, suits her name. She is followed by Moses, well known for their first album, The Swimming Zoo, and the festival culminates in performances by Mochara, a starring duo of two celebrated players. Maurice Dickson and Catherine Ashcroft combine the Irish tradition with the influences and rhythms of North Africa. A treat indeed.
If this is not enough, the fabled Survivors session will be roaring on at the Ormidale from 9.00pm onward, free for all those still on their feet and able to play or sing.
