Corrie Film Club Christmas Programme
On Sunday 9th December, the programme will begin at 7.00pm.
Dinner for One (Director Heinz Dunkhause 1963. Germany. 18 mins Cert U)
Dinner for One is a traditional Christmas short comedy (and will be served with mulled wine).
At Miss Sophie’s 90th birthday dinner, her butler James must fill in for her four departed friends – and that includes lots of drinks before every course!
Dinner for One – staring Freddie Frinton – was filmed by a German TV company in 1963. It has been shown every New Year’s Eve on German TV since 1972, winning it a place in the Guinness Book of Records. Frinton originally performed the sketch on stage in Blackpool, but it was turned into an 18-minute film for German television.
The Guardian reported last month that this cult comedy is getting something of a revival here in the UK, showing at the Campbletown comedy film festival at the end of November, the film’s first premiere in the UK for over 50 years. It’s revival is continuing with this showing at the Corrie Film Club!
Supper 7.30 pm – Please bring a dish or some mince pies to share.
The next film at 8 pm is Paddington 2 (Director Paul King. UK 2017 Cert U . 103 mins).
This is a hugely appealing and well-made feel good film for Christmas with Hugh Grant as you’ve never seen him, Hugh Bonneville, Julie Walters and many others.
Paddington is happily settled with the Brown family in Windsor Gardens, where he has become a popular member of the community, spreading joy and marmalade wherever he goes. While searching for the perfect present for his beloved Aunt Lucy’s 100th birthday, Paddington spots a unique pop-up book in Mr. Gruber’s antique shop, and embarks upon a series of odd jobs to buy it. But when the book is stolen, it’s up to Paddington and the Browns to unmask the thief.
