Arran help for Ukraine

A few local residents have started a group called Arran for Ukraine   who are collecting things to send over to Poland and then to the border with Ukraine.

An update from the organisers regarding donations –

We are collecting items to be sent to Poland for the Ukrainian refugees.

The items needed and drop off points are as follows:

Polish organisations have asked to stop donating clothing for now as they are too full with them. If you still wish to help by donations, the most needed things are:

1. First Aid kits for Ukrainian forces as:
plasters in a variety of different sizes and shapes
small, medium and large sterile gauze dressings
sterile eye dressings
triangular bandages
crêpe rolled bandages
disposable sterile gloves
tweezers
scissors
alcohol-free cleansing wipes
sticky tape
skin rash cream
painkillers such as paracetamol (or infant paracetamol for children), aspirin (not to be given to children under 16), or ibuprofen
antihistamine cream or tablets
distilled water for cleaning wounds
eye wash and eye bath

2. Also most needed for mums and kids are:
baby stuff as wipes, nappies, under nappy cream, dummies, bottles, formula milk and bottled water.
shampoos, body wash, Soaps
toothbrushes and toothpaste
sanitary pads, breast pads
washing products and dish soaps
blankets and sleeping bags

3. Long lasting food:
Tinned food including Vegetables, fruits
Pastas, rice etc
Baby food
Tea/coffee
Sweets
Dried fruits, nuts
Protein bars
Cat and dog food

Drop off points for now:
Pinmill Village shop Mon-Sat 9:00-3:00 and Sun 12:00-3:00
Lochranza hall is open 9.30-1pm Tuesday and Friday – for other times contact the organisers through Facebook
Brodick coop any time
Lamlash church hall Tuesday-Friday 5.30pm-7.30pm and Friday 10-12am

Kilmory hall  7 days, 24 hours. Follow the signs please
Shishkine hall Sunday and Monday 10-4, Tuesday 11am to 5.30pm, Wednesday 11am to 4pm and Thursday 12-4pm. Please leave donations in lesser hall
Harbour shop Blackwaterfoot Mon-Sat 10-5pm Sunday 1-4pm
Bay Stores Whiting Bay during opening hours

Please also note that Arran cab offered collections if someone is not able to do it.

We will be doing a sort and pack at Arran high school on Sunday 6th March at 10 am. The Big Coop in Brodick has secured us a Coop wagon free of charge to transport the goods to the mainland for collection by a Polish Coop partner who will transport the food to Poland and Ukraine.

Anyone wishing to help with the sort and pack please come along to the high school on Sunday. Please remember we will still have social distancing and wearing masks and/or face coverings within the high school.
