The 100 Stitched Stories Centenary Celebration
Whiting Bay Hall marks it’s 100th year!
It’s not long until July 11th when the Whiting Bay Memories Group exhibition will open for three days to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the opening of the Whiting Bay Public Hall.
As reported in last Voice for Arran there will be sections featuring all the decades since 1926 including village maps, photos, written accounts and memorabilia, showing the development of the village over the last 100 years. Special displays will feature the opening of the hall and farming developments, amongst others.
The centrepiece of the exhibition – the impressive banner of 100 Stitched Stories highlighting activities and events taking place in the hall over the last century – is now taking shape. Come along and see this creative and colourful work of art which includes the work of many talented stitchers and weavers from across the village and wider island. Weddings, dances, badminton clubs, Women’s Rural meetings – these and many more are beautifully depicted on panels stitched, woven and embroidered.
In addition to viewing the panels over the weekend, there will be a commemorative ‘zine’ for sale which features all the panels. All profits from this, the sale of the special framed picture of the hall and any donations will go towards keeping the hall in good shape for the next 100 years – and beyond!
Join us on Saturday July 11th– Monday 13th from 11am – 4.30pm daily (and also 6-8.30pm on the 11th)
There will be a welcome ceremony by hall Committee members and Trustees at 11am on Saturday 11th so come to that if you can.
