You can also find more details of each individual artist on their ‘Artist Page’ on the Arran Open Studios website.
The ‘Biscuit Tin Initiative’
After its success last year, we’re continuing with this fun project – a way everyone can participate in the Open Studios Weekend! Scattered around the island in a dozen or so hotels, bars & cafes you will find a Patersons of Arran tin. Use the contents of pencils, sharpeners, rubbers, blank postcards to make a sketch, write a poem, share a meditation and leave in the tin for an exhibition at the end of the Open Studios (to be held in Arran Active). Last year more than 200 postcards comprised the exhibition. See the article in this issue for more details and a photo of the tin you need to look out for.
Something of the Sea
To accompany the event this summer we are pleased to announce an exhibition in conjunction with local marine conservation charity COAST. We are having an exhibition of small unsigned work by local artists and budding artists on the theme of ‘Something of the sea’. We are delighted by the response with 55 artists donating a piece of their work, a measure of the support for COAST within Arran’s creative community.
The idea is to raise funds to support the valuable work which COAST does and at the same time provide an opportunity for people to acquire a piece of art at an affordable cost. The work will be available for a minimum donation of £25, although higher donations will also be welcome. All proceeds donated to COAST.
The exhibition will take place in the COAST building, The Octopus centre, Old pavilion Lamlash, and will begin on Monday 6th of August until Monday 13th August 11am-4pm daily.
